Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects : The famous architects Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects reveals the proposed design of an ambitious new cultural center in the heart of the southern Chinese city of Foshan. The city is located 45 km west of Guangzhou, and the project aims to create a combination of library, arts, education and space for cultural performances in the heart of Foshans existing Thousand Lantern Lake Park, designed by the American landscape architects SWA.
The project formed by five crystal-shaped, marble-clad volumes that meet and form a unique building form that represents the cultural heart of the city’s urban core.
The composition of the buildings creates a large shady city park, where there is room for a variety of outside activities.
Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects’ proposal aims to create a shady place that will encourage activity during the day and also supplement the active applications in the library, museum, exhibition and learning spaces.
The project is located next to the Qiandeng Lake Park, which is an important green area in the city. The park is a popular destination for the local community and has large areas of shading, where a number of public, outdoor activities and events take place. Our proposal aims to extend these park activities in the project area and provide space for a variety of cultural, public and social activities for the community
