Ackroyd + Associates : Ackroyd + Associates has completed an £800,000 refurbishment of a warehouse in Park Royal, west London, converting it into a photographic studio. The 1,500m² project for Alva Studios, called Alva Studios West, has already been used for photo-shoots with celebrities such as Victoria Beckham, David Beckham, Kate Moss and Sienna Miller.
Renowned photographer Mario Testino has also carried out shoots in the space. Ackroyd + Associates director Jon Ackroyd said: ‘For us the greatest achievement is that we managed to fulfil an incredibly ambitious brief.’
Design features include automated ceilings, mechanical green screens and automated daylight control. The practice said its proposals were a ’contemporary interpretation of the industrial warehouse’ making use of distressed timber.
The space also contains a restaurant, lounge areas and galleries. Ackroyd added: ‘The building delivers in terms of its practical use because the client team included photographers, and every space was thought about from the perspective of a photographer.
‘My personal delight in visiting the finished building is that it is like a Tardis. From the outside it is a fairly unassuming warehouse, but once you go through the front door, it is a dynamic, intricate box of tricks.’
